2024 School Captains

Dimboola Memorial Secondary College was proclaimed in 1921 and moved into the purpose-built Soldiers' Memorial Hall on our 'hilltop' site overlooking the town of Dimboola in 1924. We have been proudly educating our district's young people in the memory of our war fallen for the century since.

DMSC is a small rural secondary college situated in the Wimmera Region 36 km from Horsham. It is a traditional secondary college in its curriculum design but prides itself on its broad senior offerings including VCE and VM/VET pathways.

Everything we do at DMSC is designed to deliver ever improving learning experiences and outcomes that will enable all students to leave DMSC with the skills, knowledge, behaviours and values that drive quality life experiences.

School Centenary in 2024

We will celebrate our school's centenary at an event on Saturday 25th May 2024.

Please visit www.dmsc.vic.edu.au/centenary for more information and to register.

Dimboola Memorial Secondary College would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the Wimmera Mallee area: the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagalk peoples, and pay our respects to elders past, present and future.

From our Principal - Friday 10th May 2024

DMSC Centenary

This is now only two weeks away!

We are hoping for great weather for the Saturday afternoon events of school tours and a light afternoon tea, which will be held in the Library. An RSL commemorative service will follow at 3.30pm at the front of the Memorial Building. The State President of the RSL, Mr Rob Webster, will deliver a short address to the 260 people who have registered to attend this special event. A huge thank you to members of our school community who have offered their assistance as volunteers on the day. We are still welcoming offers of assistance for this part of the day.

Bookings for the Centenary Dinner in the Assembly Hall at 6pm have now closed and we have 220 people attending this function, which is being catered for by former student, teacher and local chef, Cat Clarke.

Merchandise to celebrate 100 years of education at the “school on top of the hill” has been organised and will be available for purchase on the day at the front office. A commemorative Centenary Book has been compiled by former student Andrew King and copies of this will also be available for purchase.

A display of memorabilia associated with the school will be located in the Reading Room.

Student Attitudes to School Surveys (AtoSS)

Each year, students are asked to complete a series of questions about their experience at school. The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of their school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying and life in general. Parents and carers will receive an email about this survey, which takes around twenty minutes to complete online. This year, the AtoSS survey will be conducted over the period of May 27 to June 7.

Parent Email addresses

Most of the direct written correspondence between the school and families is now via sms or email. I encourage parents and carers to regularly check their emails. If you have changed your email address or phone number, please update this via the front office to ensure that important information is not missed.

School Council News

At our May meeting on Monday, a number of local school policies were passed, which can be viewed on our DMSC website. The uniform committee will be looking at possible designs for the new unisex top, which will be a navy blue collared shirt. Students will vote on their preferred design once the final two options have been selected. It is planned that this will be available for the start of the 2025 school year.

Education Week next week

Every week is really education week at any school! This year’s theme, Spotlight on STEM, highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond. At DMSC we are very fortunate to have state-of-the art Science classrooms, engaging Maths curriculum and technology in the form of metalwork, woodwork, media and art. Our small school provides plenty of opportunities to experience these subjects, which can lead to career opportunities that are yet to be invented.

Bushfire At Risk Register

Our school is on the Bushfire At Risk Register (BARR).

Schools on the BARR must close on a determined Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating day in their weather district. No staff will remain on site and all out-of-school care programs (including vacation, before and after school programs) will not operate on such days.

As a bus coordinating school all bus routes will be cancelled.
